Copper Red Woodfired Travel Cup

This travel cup is produced in our studio and fired in our custom made wood kiln.
Made from high fire stoneware, woodfired in reduction to cone 11 with copper red glaze.

Elusive copper red depends on successful reduction firing. Reduction firing refers to atmosphere of the kiln starved of oxygen to the point of oxygen molecules being ripped out of the glaze and the clay body. Copper exposed to oxygen oxidases and changes colour, hence it is crucial to prevent oxygen from interacting with glaze during maturation.

We use fallen branches and trees from our property to fire and believe that this is the most sustainable way to fire a kiln.
